Fianna Fáil TD for Clare, Timmy Dooley, has condemned the arson attack on a Garda’s private car at Scarriff Garda station last night.
Deputy Dooley commented: “The appalling attack on the private vehicle of a serving member of an Garda Síochana must be condemned in the strongest possible way.
“The circumstances of this crime are hugely worrying and represents a sinister turn in the intimidation of Gardaí by people who have no regard for the law.
“The arson attack highlights the exceptional dangers that members of the force face every day. It also gives credence to the fact that members of the Gardaí and other frontline workers deserve to be paid in a manner commensurate with the risks they take on a daily basis.
“Ministers Alan Shatter and Brendan Howlin have treated the Gardaí and their representatives in a dreadful way during the negotiations on a new public service agreement. Gardaí take disproportionate risks every day they go to work and should be treated with a bit more respect in the current pay talks.”
