Unique opportunity for farmers to contribute to CAP debate

Farmers across the country today have a unique opportunity to contribute to the debate on CAP and help shape Fianna Fáil’s position on the policy.

Fianna Fáil is hosting a national policy conference on the CAP today where an extensive debate will take place regarding Ireland’s approach to CAP reform and the current EU negotiations on the policy.

The conference is taking place at the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin and will hear contributions from Professor Alan Matthews as well as the Presidents of all the main farming organisations. Fianna Fáil Agriculture Spokesperson, Éamon Ó Cuív TD, will also address the conference.

Deputy Ó Cuív commented: “Today is a unique opportunity for farmers across the country to have a say on the future of CAP. Many farmers feel they have not been listened to by Minister Simon Coveney, today is a chance to have their views heard.

“Over the past number of months I have attended over 20 meetings across the country where I have heard contributions from thousands of people regarding the future role CAP should play in Irish farming.

“I will also give an update today on where the CAP negotiations stand and what impact it will have on Ireland. CAP negotiations are entering a crucial phase, today is a chance for farmers to express their opinion. I will take the views of farmers and present them to the EU Agriculture Commissioner Dacian Ciolos, when I meet him on Monday.

“The next few months will define the role of the CAP in Ireland over the next decade and it is absolutely vital that farmers have their say on the future of CAP.”
