Clarity needed on prefabs announcement for St. Brogan’s, Bandon – Murphy O’Mahony

Cork South West TD, Margaret Murphy O’Mahony has said that clarity must be given on when and how many prefabs will be installed at St. Brogan’s School, Bandon and if they will be in use for September 2018.

Deputy Murphy O’Mahony was commenting after it was announced by the Government that prefabs have been approved for use at the school to cater for increased demand.

She commented, “An extension was approved before Christmas but we need a short term solution to cater for increased demand for places at the school.  I have raised this issue a number of times previously, and I am glad to see that some progress has been made.

“However, what is needed now is clarity on how many prefabs, catering for how many students, and when will they be in situ.

“September 2018 is just six months ago. There is a considerable level of interest among local parents in sending their children to the school due to its fine reputation, and positive learning environment.  St. Brogan’s is one of four secondary schools serving the town and surrounding hinterland.

“The Department of Education can be quite in turning words into action so clarity and answers from the Department is needed.

“I trust that the Minister will stick to his word and deliver on his promises. It’s crucially important as so many students will be disappointed not to get a place in the school,” concluded Murphy O’Mahony.
