Fianna Fáil General Election Candidate in Dublin North West, Cllr Paul McAuliffe has said that despite the Government’s flamboyant launch of Protect Ireland 2040; the LUAS will not be developed in Finglas until at earliest post 2027.
Commenting following today’s announcement, Mc Auliffe said, “The Government’s trumpeting this afternoon fails to get to the core of what the people of Finglas really care about; a specific date for construction.
“One of the most important details not acknowledged by local Government representatives is that today’s plans only provide for the planning, design and appraisal of the Finglas LUAS project.
“No funding whatsoever has been allocated for its construction. Many of the residents I have met in Dublin North West have justifiably grown deeply cynical of the project.
“Whether Fine Gael wish to ignore or not, the fact remains that the Government’s published plans confirm that Finglas LUAS will not be progressed until at very least, 2027.
“That in mind, and provided it will take at least two years to construct, we can expect that it will be 2030 before passengers step foot on a LUAS line in North Dublin.
He concluded, Dubliners no longer care about well-orchestrated, tax payer funded PR announcements; they care about tangible action.”
