Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Dara Calleary has welcomed the decision by An Post to offer a contract for the provision of post office services at Ardnaree.
Deputy Calleary commented, “I am glad that the fears of the local community here in Ballina have finally been put to rest with this decision. The Post Office in Ardnaree has provided essential services for decades, and I’m pleased that An Post has recognised its importance.
“The initial contract is for a two year period, and I am urging An Post to ensure that it works alongside the local community to ensure that the contract is viable and attractive to potential bidders.
“I want to pay tribute to the Save Ardnaree Post Office committee, who have worked tirelessly through the consultation process and whose efforts have paid off. I was delighted to assist them in their campaign and will be on hand to help over the coming weeks and months.
“Today’s announcement is a welcome boost for the local community and I hope that the contract negotiations can be conducted speedily to secure the future of services in Ardnaree”.
