Stephen Donnelly, Fianna Fáil TD for Wicklow and East Carlow has welcomed confirmation today that a prefab has been approved for a second junior infant’s class in 2018 for Greystones Community National School.

The school, which is currently located on the grounds of Greystones Rugby Club, had been faced with the decision to reduce the number of new students that it would take in 2018 if agreement had not been reached.

Deputy Donnelly has been working closely with the school and parents on this issue since it was recently raised. Following ongoing interactions with Minister for Education Richard Bruton and his team, Deputy Donnelly confirmed that the temporary classroom has been approved.

Speaking from Greystones today, Deputy Donnelly commented, “I am delighted to be able to share the news that accommodation has been formally agreed for a second junior infant’s class in Greystones Community National School.

“Having worked with parents to first secure the school, and now on this issue, this development means that there is now space for the growing school in the short term. It’s a great result for the parents, children and the school.

“My focus is now on securing a permanent home for the school, and that the new school is built as soon as possible. I have been working closely with the Minister, parents and the school on this issue for a number of months and hope that we will be in a position to move forward soon.”
