Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Health Billy Kelleher has said the Government must learn lessons from the handling of the Expert Group Report to date.
Deputy Kelleher said: “It is extremely frustrating that the government has shirked its responsibility to handle this issue in a straightforward and honest manner, showing complete disregard for the Oireachtas and allowing the report to the widely leaked before it has been considered by Cabinet or seen by the opposition parties.
“We will not be playing politics with this issue and the fact that the government has already sought to spin the expert group report before it has been publicly debated is deeply disappointing. This issue is too important for Fine Gael and Labour to play politics as usual.
Deputy Kelleher concluded: “We are committed to giving detailed consideration to the report of the Expert Group when we are afforded the opportunity of seeing it in its entirety and we are keen to see a rational, reasoned debate on this important issue in the Dáil.”
