Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim Eamon Scanlon has called for the Minister for Transport to clarify the position on those with British driving licences exchanging them for Irish licences in advance of Brexit.
Speaking in the Dáil Deputy Scanlon commented “The Minister must clarify what legislation is needed post Brexit to ensure those with British licences can continue to exchange their licence for an Irish one.
“We have heard the Road Safety Authority urging British licence holders to apply now for an Irish licence in advance of the British exit from the European Union. As a TD for a border county we in the north west require immediate clarity from the Department.
“There is the other motoring related issue of the insurance green card. Many consumers have expressed confusion as their insurance providers cannot advise how this system will work.
“The government must provide clarity to those in the border region who cross into Northern Ireland on a daily basis,” concluded Deputy Scanlon.
