Responding to the publication of the Government’s legislative programme, Fianna Fáil Whip Seán Ó Fearghail commented, “The legislative programme published this afternoon contains very few new initiatives on behalf of the government but is overwhelmingly based on bills already published or being prepared by the last government.
“The only significant surprise in the new legislative programme is how little it actually contains to reflect the government’s claims of radical change. Of the 20 bills to be published in the coming months 17 of them were prepared by the last government. In addition, there are 21 of the last government’s bills before the Dáil and the Seanad and most of the longer-term bills are straight from the last government’s programme.
“It is notable that the only legislation which Joan Burton is due to introduce in the near future involves completing the implementation of a Budget she has previously condemned as “savage”.”
