Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Education and Skills Thomas Byrne TD has said that the placing of adverts by the Strategic Communications Unit outside Whitecross National School in Julianstown, County Meath is an insult to children and teachers attending the school.

Deputy Byrne said, “Whitecross National School was told at the end of 2013 that the school would go to construction in 2014. This never happened and the school cannot now get answers from the Government. Ironically and predictably Whitecross School doesn’t appear anywhere in the Government’s new 2040 plan.

“This week, adverts appeared on bus shelters advertising the Government’s Ireland 2040 Plan and specifically the plans for education. These adverts are paid for by the taxpayer and organised by the Government’s now infamous Strategic Communications Unit.

“The Strategic Communications Unit is a vanity project of the Taoiseach and should not be funded by the taxpayers of Ireland. These billboards were ironically not placed very strategically outside a school that cannot get built due to Government inaction.

“It would suit the Government better to build schools than pay for adverts outside schools that badly need improvement,” concluded Deputy Byrne.
