The announcement by Glanbia Ingredients Ireland today regarding the Belview facility in South Kilkenny, on the Waterford boarder, with the creation of an estimated 1600 jobs and 450 construction jobs, marks a huge vote of confidence for the region, the Irish agri-food sector and the aims of Harvest 2020 according to Kilkenny based MEP, Liam Aylward.
Liam Aylward MEP for Ireland East, Member of the European Parliament Committee on Agriculture & Rural Development has strongly welcomed the announcement highlighting that:
“The development of this world-class processing plant will be a huge boost to the region and underpins the importance of the agri-food sector in driving rural revival and the economy. This forward thinking and ambitious decision underpins an innovative and dynamic outlook for Irish agriculture and the potential for growth in the Irish food sector.”
“The creation of both direct and indirect jobs, particularly in the construction sector, and in the long term increased farm expansion and investment will bring an estimated €400 million to the economy. The direct impact of this facility on the incomes of family farms, the backbone of Irish agriculture, will provide a significant boost for the sector and for rural communities as a whole.”
“The agri-food sector continues to be the success story of the Irish economy and export led growth. This decision will have a hugely positive knock-on effect across the sector and should drive further investment and growth in order for the objectives of Harvest 2020 to be reached.”
