Spokesperson on Arts and Culture Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD has welcomed the announcement that a major refurbishment of the National Gallery has been given the go-ahead.
Deputy Ó Fearghaíl commented: “Today’s announcement by Minister Jimmy Deenihan is extremely important and builds on Fianna Fáil’s record of investment in the Gallery. I am delighted that the Gallery will be reopened and refurbished in time for the centenary of 1916.
“The National Gallery is extremely important to our national heritage and will play a significant role in the centenary celebrations of 1916. Fianna Fáil has always recognised the need to promote and invest in the Gallery and funded construction of the Millennium Wing which opened in January 2002.
“I want to wish Olive Braiden and her team at the Gallery success with this refurbishment project and I look forward, as I know many people do, to visiting our much loved national institution when the works are completed.”
