Three times All Ireland hurling champion, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín will deliver the oration at the annual Seán Moylan Commemoration which will take place on Sunday, 12th November in Kiskeam.
Mass will take place at 12 noon, following which a colour party will march to the graveside of Moylan, where the Cork hurling and football legend will deliver the oration.
Prior to being elected as a Fianna Fáil TD, Moylan was a Commandant during the War of Independence. Before his death in 1957, Seán Moylan served as Minister for Lands, Minster for Education and Minister for Agriculture.
“For my generation, Seán Moylan was a man to look up to, to respect and to admire. For younger generations, the name Seán Óg Ó hAilpín evokes the same level of respect and admiration.
“As such, it will be wonderful to have Seán Óg give the oration at this year’s commemoration.
“North Cork has a proud republican heritage, and it’s crucial that we never forget this component of our past.
“Men and women across the county sacrificed their lives and wellbeing for the betterment of their country and of their communities.
“As Vice-Chair of the Seán Moylan Commemoration Committee, I am asking the people of the local communities to come out in strong numbers to commemorate not only Seán Moylan but all the men and women of Duhallow who fought with bravery and died with honour in the pursuit of our country’s freedom from tyranny,” concluded Moynihan.
