Cork North West TD, Aindrias Moynihan has said that the community of Macroom will be deeply disappointed by the admission by Minister Daly that the redevelopment of Macroom Community Hospital will not be completed until 2020.
Deputy Moynihan was commenting after the Minister informed local media that the redevelopment would not start until 2019 and would not be completed until 2020.
“This is an extra year’s wait for the patients, staff and local community. In March 2017, I was informed by the HSE that completed was expected in 2019.
“What Minister Daly is telling the local community is that this project isn’t a priority for him; nor, it seems, for Fine Gael.
“The questions that need to be answered for me are clear: why has this delay been allowed to take place, and why has Minister Creed, our local man at cabinet not done more to progress this project?
“While the level of care delivered by staff is excellent, the hospital building is in a desperate need of redevelopment. The facilities at present are not up to standard, and it is incumbent upon the Government to deliver the redevelopment as quickly as possible.
“I’ve raised this issue a number of times over the past year, and it’s not good enough that it has once again been delayed.
“Recently, I submitted questions to the Minister for Health on this very project. I’m awaiting answers but it seems that Minister Daly has been sent out to release the bad news,” concluded Moynihan.
