Seán Fleming TD today said he is extremely pleased that Micheál Martin T.D. has appointed him as the Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Public Sector Reform.
Deputy Fleming said this is a major appointment for him personally and he looks forward to carrying out his work in a very diligent manner.
“In view of the major financial challenges facing the country, the new Department dealing with all public expenditure will have a central role in ensuring a return to economic growth and activity in the country. I will be working in a constructive and positive way to ensure all possible improvements and efficiencies can be achieved for all our people.
“This role will also involve engaging in the overall political reform agenda and I have already commenced discussions with Minister Howlin regarding the detailed wording of the proposed constitutional amendment to give more powers to Oireachtas Committees. This referendum will take place on the 27th October, the same date as the Presidential Election.
“Improving how the Oireachtas carries out its functions into the future is a key area that needs constructive and substantial improvement.”
Overall Deputy Fleming said he looks forward to working with his party colleagues to ensure that Fianna Fáil presents a very strong and constructive approach in relation to getting the country back on the path of growth and increased employment.
