Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has welcomed the publication of the Marriage Bill 2015 which has been formally approved by the Government.
“We are another step closer to full marriage equality today following on from the historic vote of the Irish people in May,” said Deputy Martin.
“In the Marriage Equality Referendum, the Irish people sent a message of compassion and inclusiveness around the world and to future generations. Today’s formal approval of that decision is very welcome.”
Fianna Fáil’s Director of Elections in the Marriage Equality Referendum and Justice Spokesperson Niall Collins added: “This is an important moment in the journey towards full equality for same-sex couples and I believe will strengthen the concept of marriage in Irish society. I look forward to seeing this important piece of legislation debated and passed by the Dáil and Seanad so that it can be formally enshrined in law.”
