Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Transport Robert Troy TD has welcomed the decision by unions representing workers at Dublin Bus to suspend strike action following talks at the Workplace Relations Commission.
Deputy Troy commented, “It is crucial that Dublin Bus management and unions reach a lasting agreement to bring an end to the current industrial action. I welcome the decision by unions representing workers to suspend strike action pending the outcome of a ballot of staff. It is a mature and sensible decision which will go a long way towards resolving this dispute.
“The Dublin Bus strike has caused severe hardship for commuters, students and older people in particular. The intervention of the Workplace Relations Commission has proved crucial. It demonstrates how the industrial relations mechanisms of the state can be used to help overcome disputes between workers and management.
“A lasting solution to this dispute needs to be reached and I am hopeful that the current proposal will help achieve this.”
