Fianna Fáil has welcomed the decision by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to launch an investigation into anti-competitive practices in the motor insurance sector said Robert Troy TD, the party’s Transport Spokesperson.

“Over the last 18 months, Fianna Fáil has been consistent in highlighting this. Over this period of time, Fianna Fáil used its private members time to raise, and discuss, this issue in Dáil Éireann.”

“Unfortunately, the Government have been asleep on the job, putting the interests of big business ahead of motorists,” added Troy.

“The last 18 months have seen premiums sky rocket, as the Government dragged its feet on this crucial consumer issue, putting more and more pressure on motorists.”

“I hope that added to the work being undertaken by my colleague, John McGuinness, as Chair of the Finance Committee who is investigating motor insurance in Ireland, this investigation by the CCPC will see premiums reduce quickly, and without further delay,” concluded Troy.
