Fianna Fáil Whip Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD has said the party fully supports calls for an independent cross-border investigation into the 1998 Omagh bombing.
Deputy Ó Fearghaíl commented: “A fully transparent, independent inquiry into the awful tragedy of the Omagh bombing is essential for the families of those killed and the survivors of the attack. As we approach the 15th anniversary of the bombing next week it is imperative that all possible support is given to the families bereaved and people injured.
“I am very disappointed to hear that the Taoiseach has not accepted requests for a meeting with the Omagh Support and Self Help Group and I urge him to reconsider this as a matter of priority. It is essential that all parties north and south as well as the Irish and British Governments work together to support the survivors and families of those killed.
“The Omagh bombing was a devastating attack perpetrated by the Real IRA, killing 29 people, including a woman who was pregnant with twins. We must remember what happened on that awful day 15 years ago and resolve to get answers for those killed and injured.”
