Fianna Fáil Finance Spokesperson Michael McGrath will today table an amendment to a Private Members’ Motion seeking space for the ongoing criminal investigation into allegations of impropriety around the sale of NAMA’s Project Eagle loan book.

Deputy McGrath commented, “Fianna Fáil has been to the forefront of the effort to properly investigate the facts surrounding the sale of the Project Eagle loan book and we have called for the establishment of a Commission of Investigation. However, we believe the decision to establish a Commission of Investigation should be made after the ongoing and developing criminal investigation has been completed.

“To proceed with a Commission of Investigation while a formal criminal investigation is underway would, in our view, show reckless disregard for a police investigation and could potentially undermine prosecutions.

“In the meantime, the Public Accounts Committee must be allowed to examine the Comptroller and Auditor General’s Review.”
