Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD has announced his Seanad Spokespeople ahead of tomorrow’s first sitting of the 24th Seanad.
He commented, “The Fianna Fáil Seanad team comprises fourteen talented individuals, all of whom I expect to play a leadership role in holding this Government to account and in the renewal of the Fianna Fáil party. If the Government holds to its pledge to abolish Seanad Éireann, this will be its last sitting. My attitude is that for as long as it is in place, my party will play its full role providing robust and constructive opposition in the best interests of our country.
“I have asked Darragh O’Brien to take on the role of the party’s leader in the Seanad and Diarmuid Wilson to take on the role of Whip. The party will also be nominating Denis O’Donovan as Leas Chathoirleach of Seanad Éireann in line with the long standing precedent of opposition senators holding this role.”
