Fianna Fáil has ambitious plans for Dublin – Fitzpatrick
Fianna Fáil candidate for Dublin Central Mary Fitzpatrick says that the party has ambitious plans for Dublin especially in the area of housing and homelessness.
Speaking at the launch of the party’s Dublin policy document A Dublin for All, she said the party is committed to sustained provision of social housing. Highlighting how the construction of new social housing units in Dublin has plummeted by 90% in just four years, she pointed out that Fianna Fáil is aiming to deliver 15,500 social homes for Dublin over the next five years.
“Rent Supplement levels will be increased by 10% to support vulnerable households. This measure will be of particular benefit in Dublin where rents are higher.”
Among the other proposals in the policy document are: the establishment of a NAMA run agency that will build housing for profit to cater to the needs of first time buyers in Dublin. “Fianna Fáil also plans to introduce a family tenure lease to facilitate long term renting and a first time buyers saving scheme to help families starting out to get the money together for a deposit on their new home.”
Ms Fitzpatrick added: “These plans will make a difference to the future of Dublin. They are well thought out and independently costed.”
She said she wholeheartedly supported plans for a directly elected Mayor. “I lived in New York for years so I know how beneficial to a city a strong office of the Mayor can be.”
