Fianna Fáil Justice Spokesperson Jim O’Callaghan TD has welcomed the appointment of a new Garda Commissioner and has pledged to work constructively with the new Commissioner as he leads reform of the Gardaí.
Deputy O’Callaghan commented, “The appointment of Deputy Chief Constable Drew Harris as Garda Commissioner comes at a critically important time for An Garda Siochána.
It is important that during his tenure the necessary reforms of the organisation are continued and that the very important position occupied by the gardai in Ireland is enhanced. I wish the new Commissioner well as he takes responsibility for leading the process.
“Fianna Fáil has been consistent in calling for constructive reform and so I look forward to playing my full part, as the party’s Justice Spokesperson, in encouraging and monitoring that reform.
“I would also like to pay tribute to outgoing acting Commissioner Dónall Ó Cualáin, who has provided calm leadership at a difficult time.”
