Economist and NUIG Lecturer Dr Alan Ahearne will be the guest speaker at a public meeting on the future of the economy hosted by Fianna Fail in Galway next week.

Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív will chair the meeting, which takes place at the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill at 8.30pm next Monday night.

“The aim of this meeting is to have an open discussion about the direction of the Irish economy, and the particular challenges we face both locally and nationally in securing sustainable economic growth,” said Deputy Ó Cuív.

“Dr Ahearne is a renowned economist with considerable experience at the forefront of economic policy and development.  He will be available at this meeting to address a wide range of issues relating to the local and national economy, and to answer any questions people may have.”

The meeting will also be attended by Fianna Fáil representatives across Galway West. Deputy Ó Cuív said it is open to the public, and anyone who has questions or ideas is very welcome to come along.

“This is an important opportunity to discuss and debate the steps we need to take to boost our economy and create jobs both here in Galway and across the country.  Anyone who is interested in taking part in the discussions is invited to come along and we will ensure they get a chance to air their views,” Deputy Ó Cuív said.
