Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West Michael Moynihan is hosting an Education Seminar in the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk next week to discuss the options available to students after their Leaving Cert. The event is primarily aimed at students who are in their final year of secondary school and are considering going on to third level.
Deputy Moynihan commented, “This is often a very confusing and stressful time for students and their parents. There are an extensive range of courses at PLC colleges, ITs and Universities to choose from and vast amounts of information about all of them, and it can be very easy to become overwhelmed by the options available to them. The closing date for CAO Applications is 1st February 2015 and this seminar is designed to simplify and explain the process to both students and their parents”.
There will be a range of speakers attending the meeting including a professional Career Guidance Counsellor who will outline the CAO and FETAC application process as well as providing information for HEAR and DARE candidates.
There will be a representative from SUSI, the Higher Education Grants awarding body, to discuss the steps involved in applying for a student grant; a guest speaker from Teagasc to discuss agricultural courses; a representative from SOLAS to discuss trades and apprenticeships; and also a welfare officer from UCC to give advice for those thinking of going onto college in 2015.
“I know that this can be a daunting time for students trying to decide what path to take after they finish second level education – I hope that this event can provide valuable information to help with these decisions, and all are very welcome to attend”, Deputy Moynihan concluded.
