The Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has pledged his and his party’s solidarity with all members of An Garda Síochána following the brutal murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.

Deputy Martin commented, “This cowardly act of violence in county Louth has caused revulsion and rage in homes across the country today.  It represents a direct assault on our society and our sense of community.  It deserves a response on the same scale.

“No stone should be left unturned and no resource denied to the gardaí in their pursuit and prosecution of those responsible and all associated with them.

“Like the murder of Garda Jerry McCabe, last night is a horrible reminder that the gardaí stand apart.  Their role is different to that of every other public servant and we should never forget that.  They are putting their lives on the line every day to protect ours and deserve whatever support they need to do that job.

“The thoughts and prayers of the entire Fianna Fáil organisation in Louth and throughout Ireland are with Garda Donohoe’s family and colleagues at this time.”
