Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has expressed his deep sorrow following the passing of former Councillor Denis Owens.
Deputy Martin said, “I wish to extend my sincere sympathy to Denis’s family at this difficult time. Denis was an outstanding public servant and I want to pay tribute to him for all of his community and voluntary work down through the years.
“Denis was very active within the Gaelic Athletic Association, where he served as President of St. Nick’s GAA club with great distinction over many years. He was also Vice President of the Cork County GAA board.
“He was a very effective and diligent Councillor and a remarkable community activist. He was a proud member of the Fianna Fáil Party, and particularly loved election time.
“Denis was a great raconteur and a man of immense wit and humour. He will be greatly missed, most of all by his family to whom I extend my deepest sympathy.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis”.
