Fianna Fáil Leader, Micheál Martin TD, has expressed his sadness on the death of former cabinet Minister Michael J Noonan.
Deputy Martin commented: “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of former Fianna Fáil cabinet Minister Michael J Noonan.
“I wish to extend my sympathies and that of the Fianna Fáil party to Michael’s wife Helen and their six children.
“Michael served as a TD for Limerick West from 1969 until 1997. He also served as Minister for Defence from 1987 to 1989.
“Michael was a strong community activist and he always had a deep commitment to public life. He was also a great advocate for the people of West Limerick.
“Upon his retirement from politics, Michael involved himself deeply in the local community in West Limerick. He made a notable contribution to the very successful development of the Ballyhoura region.
“Michael was also instrumental in the establishment of West Limerick 102fm and served as its inaugural Chairperson.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
