Fianna Fáil Justice Spokesperson Niall Collins TD has called on the Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald to release the report she commissioned from Mr Dominic McGinn SC following his examination of the report of the Serious Crime Review Team into the Fr Niall Molloy murder.

Confirmation that the Minister has received a copy of the report came following a Parliamentary Question tabled by the Fianna Fáil representative.

Deputy Collins commented, “I welcome the fact that Mr McGinn has concluded his work and would call now on the Minister to brief Fr Molloy’s family and then publish his findings.  In her answer to my question, the Minister said that she was considering the report in consultation with the Attorney General.  While it is understandable that she will want to take advice on whatever has emerged from Mr McGinn’s work, there must not be any further delay in getting to the bottom of this case.

“With the decision to conduct a review, the Government has raised an expectation that further information will now be brought forward into the public domain about a case that has been the subject of much media speculation over many years.  Any undue delay in now briefing the family and then publishing the report would raise a real risk of increasing inaccurate speculation and undermining public confidence in the police and judicial systems.

“The family of Fr Niall Molloy deserve whatever further clarity this new report can bring.  They must not be kept waiting any longer for answers.”
