Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Dara Calleary says his party is committed to protecting the future of the CE, RSS & Tús Schemes.  Fianna Fáil is bringing forward a Bill to recognise and support these schemes and ensure that they are maintained.

Deputy Calleary explained, “Fine Gael has been pursuing its right wing agenda by pushing its Jobpath activation programme, while attempting reduce the number of places available on schemes such as Tús.  This is a retrograde step and threatens communities in Mayo and across the country.

“This government has failed to grasp the importance of these schemes, not only from an employment perspective, but also in terms of social inclusion.  Many of the people who take part in these schemes do not want to be forced onto the Jobpath programme as they feel they benefit more from a place on a CE, RSS or Tús scheme.

“Our Bill will ensure that people will have the option to leave the Jobpath programme if a place on one of the rural or social schemes opens up.  This will ensure that people are placed on the most suitable scheme as well as protecting these programmes into the future.

“Fianna Fáil has long supported community employments schemes and fully recognises the benefits they bring to participants and the communities they operate in.  We are committed to ensuring their viability, now and into the future”.
