Cork will host the next meeting of the Fianna Fáil Ard Comhairle, the organisation’s governing body, this weekend.

Party Leader and Cork South Central TD, Micheál Martin said: “At last year’s Ard Fheis we agreed a series of internal reforms and one of the suggestions that has come forward is looking to bring meetings of the Ard Comhairle out of Dublin and around the country. This meeting is Cork is the first part of that process.

“The Ard Comhairle is the main governing body of the party and is made up of representatives from all over the country and from all levels of the organisation.”

Deputy Martin added that Fianna Fáil’s new structures give real power to members and seeks active engagement with communities throughout the country.

“I very much look forward to chairing this weekend’s Ard Comhairle meeting in Cork and I know the members are looking forward to coming to the Rebel county for the meeting.”

To coincide with the meeting of the Ard Comhairle, Fianna Fáil will also hold a National Women’s Lunch on Saturday hosted by Senator Mary White. The theme of the lunch is ‘Looking After Your Mental Health in Tough Economic Times’, speakers will include the Chairperson of Suicide Aware (Pat Behan) and Cllr Mary Shields.

“Saturday’s lunch will hear presentations from a consultant psychiatrist and the Chairperson of Suicide Aware, where advice will be given on how to deal with the issues people face in these challenging economic times.  It is important that public representatives give a lead in discussing this critically important issue and I look forward to what I expect will be a challenging and informative session” Deputy Martin concluded.
