Over 130,000 people are languishing on the social housing waiting list. This means families have no firm place to call home and raise their children. Minister Alan Kelly and Paudie Coffey have been like two bald men fighting over a comb trying to claim credit for houses that don’t exist.
Over the past 4 years construction has ground to a halt. Their new housing plan’s original target for 1,400 new homes in 2015 has been replaced by 1,700 new homes by 2017. At this rate the target of 35,000 social housing units by 2020 will never be met. We need real action not just more photo ops.
Fianna Fáil published a detailed National Housing Roadmap that sets out our plans to tackle the social housing crisis.
- €4.5bn social housing investment
- 45,000 new social housing units by 2021
- Keeping Part V in full
- Allowing tenants to refurbish their homes
