Efforts in Laois and Offaly have worked to stabilise COVID-19 outbreaks – Cowen

Fianna Fáil TD for Laois-Offaly Barry Cowen has commended the people of Laois and Offaly over the past two weeks for their efforts in following public health guidelines.

Deputy Cowen said: “Following the two-week restrictions imposed on Laois and Offaly the 14-day incidence rate of Covid19 has stabilised and critically the 7-day rate has fallen right back down – that’s why, even though the overall 14 day rate is quite high, public health know the measures have worked. Community transmission has been stopped.

“I welcome the announcement today by NPHET recommending the lifting of restrictions in Laois and Offaly and the cabinet adhering to the advice to lift the restrictions.

“The people of Laois and Offaly have just saved a lot of lives in Laois and Offaly and more widely in Ireland and deserve huge thanks and credit.

“We are all disappointed by the actions of many public representatives for attending an Oireachtas golf function in Clifden earlier this week. Let that not deter us or take from the patriotic actions of my constituents to whom I give credit and appreciation which is due in spades!  I too hope the continued efforts of those in Kildare will also yield similar responses “, concluded Deputy Cowen
