Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on European Affairs Deputy Timmy Dooley has expressed his shock following this morning’s terrorist attack in Brussels.

Deputy Dooley said, “I am shocked and dismayed at the events unfolding in Belgium and I want to offer my sincere condolences to all of those caught up in this appalling attack. While the security situation is ongoing, media reports are suggesting that there are multiple fatalities and scores of people injured.

“There is a large Irish community living in Brussels and I want to offer my support and that of the Fianna Fáil party to all of our citizens in Belgium and we will endeavor to assist them in any way we can.

“These attacks, which would appear to be terrorist attacks, are an affront to the principles of democracy, peace and freedom, but we as a nation and as a member of the European Union must stand united and work collectively to overcome the scourge of terrorism and protect these principles which are the bedrock of the European Union”.
