Fianna Fáil TD for Wicklow Stephen Donnelly has thanked Minister Kevin Boxer Moran for visiting both the Murrough and Arklow North Beach to assess much needed coastal defence work repairs.
Deputy Donnelly, who invited the Minister to tour the sites late last year, says that the Minister’s visit is an important step forward for the much needed works.
Deputy Donnelly stated, “I was delighted to welcome Minister Kevin Boxer Moran to Wicklow this week. I’ve been raising the issues of coastal erosion with him at both the Murrough and Arklow North Beach since he was appointed. Following a meeting with me late last year, he agreed to visit Wicklow to see that damage for himself.
“Minister Moran and the OPW toured both sites, and saw the damage which has been done to both sides. Following on from the Minister’s tour of the site, I hope that progress can be made in the near future to fund the works needed to repair the damage done by Storm Ophelia and Brian.
“I look forward to working with the Minister and Wicklow County Council to develop a long-term plan for both areas. There is cross party support for this project, the sooner works begin, the better.”
