Fianna Fáil TD for Wicklow Stephen Donnelly has welcomed confirmation by Dublin Bus that it is to provide additional express routes for North Wicklow commuters.

Deputy Donnelly has met with Dublin Bus CEO Ray Coyne on several occasions over the last year to discuss issues facing Wicklow commuters.

Deputy Donnelly commented, “Today’s announcement is a positive development for Wicklow commuters, especially students. I am regularly contacted by people who use these services. Due to the high demand in the evenings, they are regularly passed by full 84x’s adding hours to their weekly commute.

“It’s my hope that these additional services will allow more Wicklow residents to get back to their families at a reasonable time. The timing is particularly useful as it coincides with the return of third level colleges and schools. The changes will see an additional service at 16:45 for the 84X from UCD.

“If we are serious about improving commute times for Wicklow residents we need to go further. We need to ensure that there are more high quality jobs in the county, serious investment in transport infrastructure including bringing the Luas to North Wicklow, improving 133 services, improving the N11 and increasing the number of park and ride facilities available to encourage public transport use.”
