Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Disability Margaret Murphy O’Mahony has expressed her dismay following a Prime Time Investigates report into the care of adults with intellectual disabilities.

The report highlighted a series of failures in the care of hundreds of patients.

Deputy Murphy O’Mahony said, “These revelations are disturbing and once again shine a light on the State’s neglectful treatment of people with disabilities.

“I will be raising this issue with Minister of State for Disability Finian McGrath in the Dáil next week. It is completely unacceptable that the State continues to fail to meet its responsibility to protect people with intellectual disabilities.

“The Government needs to ensure that the appropriate mechanisms, resources and systems are in place to provide a high standard of care for people with intellectual disabilities. This is something that the Government needs to deliver on in the coming months.”
