Fianna Fáil Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Councillor and Dún Laoghaire General Election candidate, Cllr Cormac Devlin is encouraging young people, aged 18-30, from across Dublin to apply for an opportunity to serve on the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France.

The youth department of the Council of Europe is seeking an Irish delegate to take part in two sessions of the Congress of Local & Regional Authorities (CLRAE) in Strasbourg – one week in early April and one week in early October 2019.

Cllr. Devlin said, “Last year, a young lady from my own area of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Rhona Conway-Kenny was selected and served as the Irish Youth Representative to the Council of Europe. As Rhona can attest, this is a wonderful opportunity for any young person.

“The aim of this annual programme is to highlight European democratic values and ideals and to equip young people to become active in local government. It’s a rare but exciting prospect for any young person interested in their local community, public policy or the European project as a whole, to experience first-hand how it functions and operates.

“The chosen Irish representative will join delegates from 46 other European member states to attend assemblies held with elected members of the Congress and to exchange thoughts and ideas on the local government sector across the continent.

He concluded, “I am encouraging those interested to apply via my own website www.cormacdevlin.ie or @ www.coe.int before Monday 17th September.”
