Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth has urged the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs to re-examine the decision which continues to leave Cootehill without a Family Resource Centre.

Deputy Smyth commented, “I have been campaigning with my party colleague, Fianna Fáil Local Area Representative for Cootehill Aidan Fitzpatrick, for some time on this badly needed centre. The demand is in the town for a Family Resource Centre yet the government won’t progress the project.

“I understand the application was not successful in the first instance. However, since then the Minister has announced another €1.5 million in funding for the programme. There is significant levels of funding in the programme now. Our area must be considered in light of additional money being invested into resource centres.

“We are calling on the Minister to look again at the application with consideration for Cavan-Monaghan,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
