Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Clare Cllr. Cathal Crowe has welcomed the announcement by Limerick Institute of Technology that it plans to open a new campus in Ennis.
Six degree programmes are being offered through the CAO for the new Ennis site.
Cllr. Crowe commented, “This is a major step forward for Ennis and it will provide a confidence and economic boost for the town. Securing a third level campus is a testament to all that this town has to offer – I want to pay tribute to the people who have worked tirelessly to make this proposal a reality.
“The opening of the new campus will make a big difference to the mid-West region and it opens up new possibilities for local people who may now be encouraged to consider third level options. The initial courses on offer are degree programmes, but the possibility of evening and professional learning are also being explored.
“Not only does today’s announcement bring greater education opportunities to Ennis, it will also have a significant economic impact. This campus will result in more people living and working in Ennis, which is good socially and economically. It should also see more local people staying around as they will be able to live and study in Ennis rather than having to travel to Limerick.
“I look forward to further engagement with Limerick Institute of Technology to explore future opportunities for Ennis and the mid-West region”, concluded Cllr. Crowe.
