Fianna Fáil General Election Candidate for Clare Cllr. Cathal Crowe is reminding farmers that the deadline for ANC appeals is next Monday – 8th April.

The Areas of Natural Constraints scheme (ANC) deals with areas of land that are designated as disadvantaged.

Cllr. Crowe commented, “The deadline for farmers wishing to appeal their ANC eligibility is next Monday and I want to encourage all farmers who feel that they should qualify for the scheme to ensure that they have their appeal application submitted to the Department by then.

“New land eligibility rules have led to a number hill farmers and stock owners in Clare losing their ANC status, which should see a large increase in appeals. There is just under a week to go until the deadline and I would encourage farmers to ensure that they have included all the necessary information on the application before they submit it.

“Farmers lodging an area aid application should also to mark their eligibility for the ANC scheme while they are going through the appeals process. Once the appeal is successful, payments can then be made in 2019 rather than being deferred until 2020.

“Farmers in Clare are facing serious financial issues, prices have fallen through the floor, cash flow is a major problem and a no deal Brexit is still a distinct possibility. These payments are essential and every farmer needs to ensure that they meet the appeals deadline”, concluded Cllr. Crowe.
