Fianna Fáil Councillor for Lucan Ed O’Brien has welcomed today’s announcement of 450 jobs to be created in the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.  The announcement confirms the news that Penney’s will open in the Shopping Centre, as part of an extension to the centre which will include new restaurants as well as increased civic space.

Cllr. O’Brien commented, “The announcement is a huge boost for the Lucan area which has lagged behind other areas of Dublin in terms of job creation over the last 12 months as a recovery has started to set in.  The shopping centre is an amenity used by a huge number of residents in Lucan and will be welcomed by them.

Cllr. O’Brien also emphasised the importance of the increased restaurant space alongside the construction of the new Penney’s store.

“The provision of these amenities will hopefully mean an increased footfall in the centre which should lead to these jobs being sustainable in the long term. It is hugely important that the Lucan area has investment like this to create the kind of jobs that are sustainable and attractive to people living in the Lucan area, I am thinking particularly of the part time jobs which may appeal to students and others who cannot take up full time employment.”
