Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim, Eamon Scanlon, has called on Seanad members to work proactively to ensure the Coroners (Amendment) Bill 2018 passes before the Summer. Deputy Scanlon was commenting after leading on the Bill for Fianna Fáil in the Dáil.
Deputy Scanlon commented, “The progression of the Bill will come as a relief to many families in Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, and Donegal. There are families touched by this, many of whom attended the debate in the Dáil, who have expressed their contentment and eager anticipation to see this Bill become law.
“The Bill will see a number of changes including strengthening the powers of investigation and reporting held by Coroners. It will also address maternal deaths, perinatal and infant deaths. The Bill will also allow for a wider scope of inquiry and a number of other provisions.
“This is a sensitive topic and will be emotional for families who want to see the Bill pass. Across the House we must ensure that the Seanad amendments are produced and passed as quickly as possible,” concluded Deputy Scanlon.
