Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Clare Cllr. Cathal Crowe says the M20 Cork-Limerick motorway will be a priority for the party if it gets into government.

The project, while announced numerous times by Fine Gael, has stalled, much to the anger of people in the Mid West and north Cork.

Cllr. Crowe explained, “As someone living in south Clare, I fully appreciate the huge difference that this motorway would make to people in the Mid West region. This project is crucial to drive economic growth and to increase connectivity between Cork, Limerick and Dublin.

“Fine Gael has left the regions behind; and over the past decade we have seen a massive increase in investment in Dublin and the commuter counties at the expense of places like Clare and Limerick. This cannot be allowed to continue. People in rural Ireland want a change and Fianna Fáil is there to fight for them.

“The M20 project has stalled under Fine Gael. Like so many of the promises they make, they’re great on the announcements and press releases but they fail to follow up with any meaningful action. The party has completely neglected the Mid West, with no plan for public transport and the Cork-Limerick motorway is still only at design stage.

“Fianna Fáil is fully supportive of the M20 project and all of the benefits it will bring to the region and we will ensure that the stop-start nature of its progress to date is a thing of the past”, concluded Cllr. Crowe.
