Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport Robert Troy says every effort must be made to assist the holidaymakers affected by the collapse of Lowcostholidays.

Deputy Troy said, “Lowcostholidays is a popular provider of holiday packages amongst Irish holidaymakers. The sudden collapse of the company has left many people out of pocket. Some people have discovered that their flights have not been paid for so in effect they are stranded. Many others are being forced to pay for their hotel rooms again as the holiday operator failed to make the necessary payments.

“Lowcostholidays was registered and bonded with the Irish Commission for Aviation. As a result of this it should be possible to reimburse those that have found they have to pay double for their flights. The Commission needs to set out a clear guide for those affected by the collapse of this company.

“Credit Card operators should also be pro-active in providing a reimbursement for those that booked their holidays using their services. There is a ‘chargeback’ mechanism available to affected consumers who can request a full refund as the supplier did not deliver the services that were paid for.”
