Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick, Niall Collins, has welcomed the announcement that 100 jobs are to be created in Limerick with the expansion of the Vistakon plant in Plassey.

Deputy Collins commented: “The news that €100 million is to be invested in Limerick by Vistakon is very welcome news and a huge boost to the local economy here.

“Vistakon is a huge and loyal employer in Limerick and today’s announcement will bring the workforce to 700. With 200 temporary construction jobs also planned, this is great news for the Mid-West region which has suffered greatly during the recession. With unemployment in Limerick city almost double the national average this is a timely announcement.

“The boost for Limerick and the wider Mid-West region is not just confined to the jobs. The knock-on effects will lead to more service jobs being created and more money being circulated in the local economy.

“This goes to show that with the help of a bit of marketing by the IDA, Limerick is a very attractive place to set-up and conduct business. I hope today’s announcement will lead to other employers seriously looking at Limerick as a destination to locate their business.”
