Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Justice Niall Collins has said he was shocked to hear that a member of An Garda Síochána was shot during an attempted mugging in America.

Garda Brian Hanrahan was injured during the attack in New Orleans.

Deputy Collins said: “I was shocked to learn of the shooting of Garda Brian Hanrahan whilst holidaying in the United States.  Thankfully it has been reported that his injuries are not life threatening.  Brian is a very valued and popular member of our community in Limerick and Newcastle West and he is a well-respected member of An Garda Síochána locally.

“I wish him well and truly hope he makes a full recovery.  I have contacted Newcastle West Garda station Superintendent Tom O’Connor and have asked him to pass on our best wishes to Brian.”
