Christmas Kingdom should stay in Malahide
Dublin Fingal candidate for Fianna Fáil Lorraine Clifford-Lee has called for every effort to be made to ensure the Christmas Kingdom remains in Malahide.
Earlier this week permission was withdrawn for the siting of the Christmas Kingdom on the Green in Malahide – following objections by local residents.
“I have been contacted by numerous businesses and families who are very upset and unhappy that the Christmas Kingdom is not being allowed go ahead in Malahide and is instead being re-located.
“As the mother of a young child, I too am disappointed that a compromise could not be reached. The Christmas Kingdom would have attracted thousands of people to the area and would have been a great boost to businesses in the area. Christmas is supposed to be all about children and families. Excited children are what makes Christmas.
“Early in the last century Lord Talbot gave Malahide Green to ALL the residents of Malahide for recreational use. The Green has been the site of sports events, fetes, carnivals and shows for many, many years. There has been a surge of support for this project and I support it too.
“I firmly believe the Christmas Kingdom would have been a great attraction and of benefit to the entire community in Malahide. There are more than 30 restaurants in the area providing employment for hundreds of families and the re-location of Christmas Kingdom will have a major impact on them.
“I am calling on all parties involved to ensure that the Christmas Kingdom is returned to Malahide.”
