Fianna Fáil Justice Spokesperson Dara Calleary TD has welcomed the nomination this evening of Mrs. Justice Susan Denham to the role of Chief Justice.

Deputy Calleary said: “The Government has nominated Mrs. Justice Susan Denham for appointment by President Mary McAleese as the State’s Chief Justice.

“Susan Denham is most deserving of the honour of becoming the first female Chief Justice. She has an impressive record of reform and transformation both legally and within the operations of the Courts Service. I have no doubt that she will bring her track record of reform to the role and will seek to challenge status quos.

“I wish to pay tribute to Mr Justice John Murray who has served the State well during his seven year term as Chief Justice.”
