Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has welcomed the news that Westport based retailer Carraig Donn is to create 150 jobs as part of a major expansion of its manufacturing and retail operation.
Carraig Donn today confirmed an expansion of its base in Westport and announced plans to open more retail outlets around the country.  The company also launched its new website for online shopping.
Speaking from the launch this afternoon, Deputy Calleary said: “This is fantastic news not just for Westport, but for the Irish retail sector as a whole.  The Hughes family who run Carraig Donn have been a beacon of entrepreneurship in Westport and are valued employers right across the region. Through their hard work and commitment they have grown a high-quality business that has become a national success story.
“Carraig Donn manufactures designer clothing as well as quality gifts and accessories. The company has opened new stores in Galway, Dun Laoghaire in Dublin, Dungarvan in Co Waterford, Carlow, and Maynooth and Newbridge in Kildare and will open a further twelve stores over the next two years.
“Given that the retail sector is going through a particularly difficult time at the moment. It is heartening to see a home-grown business doing so well, investing in new premises and creating jobs.”
